Back Massage Therapy

What is Lumbar Traction?

Lumbar traction decompresses, stretches, and mobilizes the lumbar spine, or lower back, by applying a pulling force to the area. This can be done using a traction table, mechanical device, or manually by a therapist. The process may also involve inversion, where the patient is flipped upside down, to enhance the decompression effect. Patients are positioned comfortably, and the treatment's duration and intensity are adjusted based on individual needs. Lumbar traction is often part of a comprehensive plan to treat various lower back conditions, providing relief and improving mobility.

What are the benefits?

Lumbar traction offers several benefits that make it an effective treatment for lower back conditions. It can help alleviate pain by reducing pressure on the spinal discs and nerves, providing significant relief. Additionally, traction may assist in correcting misalignments in the lumbar spine and create more space between the vertebrae, which can help relieve nerve compression. The technique also helps relax tight muscles in the lower back, contributing to overall comfort, and may improve flexibility and range of motion. By promoting better blood flow to the affected area, lumbar traction supports the healing process for injuries.
