After your first chiropractic visit, there might be a possibility you will feel any of the following:

Temporary soreness / stiffness

Patients may feel soreness or stiffness due to the body's natural response to the realignment of the spine and surrounding structures. Chiropractic adjustments work to correct misalignments, which can cause muscles and ligaments to stretch or move in ways they haven't in some time. This unfamiliar movement may result in temporary discomfort as the body adjusts to its new alignment. The soreness is often similar to the feeling experienced after exercise and typically subsides within a day or two as the body adapts to the treatment.

Improved Posture and Mobility

Patients may experience improved posture and mobility due to the realignment of the spine and joints. Misalignments, or subluxations, can restrict movement and cause the muscles surrounding the spine to compensate, leading to poor posture and limited flexibility. By correcting these misalignments, chiropractic adjustments help restore proper joint function, reduce tension in surrounding muscles, and enhance overall spinal alignment. This improved alignment allows for better range of motion, making it easier for patients to move more freely and maintain a healthier posture.

After your first chiropractic visit, you should:

Ice Pack

Patients are advised to use an ice pack to reduce any potential inflammation or soreness. Adjustments can cause slight irritation to the surrounding muscles and tissues as the body begins to adapt to its new alignment. Ice helps to constrict blood vessels, which decreases swelling, numbs any discomfort, and speeds up recovery by reducing inflammation. Applying ice in short intervals also helps prevent any prolonged soreness, ensuring a smoother recovery process following the adjustment.

After your first chiropractic appointment, it’s essential to schedule your next visit within 2-3 days, as recommended by Dr. Lee. This timely follow-up is crucial for controlling pain, promoting faster healing, and preventing inflammation from spreading to other areas, which could make your condition more serious. Regular check-ins allow Dr. Lee to monitor your progress, adjust treatments as needed, and ensure that the care plan is effectively addressing your concerns. To stay on track for optimal recovery, please schedule your next appointment before leaving the clinic.

Do Not Exercise Immediately

After your first chiropractic appointment, it's important to refrain from engaging in any strenuous exercise for at least four hours. This waiting period allows your body to adapt to the adjustments made during your visit, giving your muscles and joints the time they need to stabilize and recover. Immediate physical activity can strain the newly adjusted areas, potentially leading to discomfort or setbacks in your recovery. By allowing your body to rest and adjust, you enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and set the foundation for a more successful healing process.
